Android Grabs 20% share in the iPad Dominated Tablet Market
A recent study conducted by ABI Research shows Android has grabbed 20% share in the tablet market.
ABI Research is a market research company engaged in global connectivity and emerging technology. Its latest research reveals that Android has begun making the kind of progress with the tablet market that it did with smartphones. iPad’s dominance in the market may not last for as long as many analysts expected.
However, no single vendor using Android has been able to pose a threatening challenge against Apple’s iPad. ABI Research mobile devices group director Jeff Orr said, “Many vendors have introduced media tablets, but none are separating themselves from the pack to pose a serious threat to Apple”. Experts predict that the fragmented competition from Android can grow quickly and will claw at Apple in the meantime, even if all those competitors can’t reach the point of profitability.
From the current position of Android we can conclude that the benefits of open software platform development have yet to be realized for media tablets.
